The passions become evil and malicous if they are regarded as such. To make the regularly recurring sensations of sex an evil is horrific in that it torments every human being. Sex has the following in common with sympathy- one person does something that while giving pleasure gives someone else pleasure as well. To slander such an arrangement by giving it a bad conscience is a crime.
